Are we?

"Ultimately, the thing that is super important in the grand scale of history is 'Are we on the path to becoming a multi-planet species or not?'" [Elon] Musk said at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics conference in San Diego this week. "And if we're not, that's not a very bright future," he added. "We'll simply be hanging out on Earth until some eventual calamity claims us."

What made our country great was our perserverance and our drive; we could out-think, out-run, out-maneuver, out-anything anyone anywhere anytime. When President Kennedy told us to go to the moon, we did. In an era before serious computer technology, it was skill, intelligence and guts that got us there. Our entire country was proud! We had no equal anywhere. We were the best and after the moon landing, we knew it.

In contrast, our leaders now want us to be just another face in the High School Yearbook of Nations. You all know those faces - not the valedictorian, just the many unexceptional faces.

Is this really what we want America to be?
